10 Adult Activities to Do in Pigeon Forge and Gatlinburg

When people think of Pigeon Forge and Gatlinburg, they often think family-friendly theme parks — and yes, those are fantastic. But there’s a whole other side to the Smokies that adults absolutely love. Whether you’re here with your partner, a group of friends, or the grown-ups in a multi-generational family, here are my favorite adult activities within easy reach of Cougar’s Cabin.

1. Dollywood — More Than Just Rides Don’t let the family-friendly reputation fool you. Dollywood is genuinely one of the best theme parks in the country, and adults are often the most impressed. World-class live music, incredible Southern food, craft demonstrations, and yes — some seriously thrilling coasters. In summer 2026, the brand-new NightFlight Expedition opens — the world’s first indoor hybrid coaster. Go on a weekday morning for the shortest lines.

2. Wine Tasting in Gatlinburg Gatlinburg has a surprisingly vibrant wine scene. Ole Smoky Winery and Smoky Mountain Winery both offer tastings and are worth a stop. Grab a glass, sit on a porch, and watch the mountains do their thing.

3. Ole Smoky Moonshine & Distillery Hopping The Smoky Mountains are moonshine country, and Ole Smoky Moonshine’s distillery on the Gatlinburg Strip is a must. Sample everything from classic white lightning to blackberry and apple pie moonshine. Just down the road, Tennessee Shine Co. and Sugarlands Distilling Company are equally worth a visit.

4. Axe Throwing at Gatlinburg Axe House This has quickly become one of the most popular group activities in the area — and for good reason. It’s supervised, surprisingly easy to pick up, and ridiculously fun. Perfect for a group of adults who want something a little different.

5. Dinner at The Peddler Steakhouse If you’re splurging on one dinner during your trip, make it The Peddler in Gatlinburg. Perched above a rushing mountain stream with views through floor-to-ceiling windows, it’s one of the most unique dining experiences in Tennessee. The salad bar alone is legendary.

6. Ober Gatlinburg This mountain resort sits 3,300 feet above Gatlinburg and offers something year-round. In summer, take the aerial tramway up for breathtaking views, then enjoy the alpine slide, mountain coaster, wildlife encounter, and hiking trails. It’s a full day of activity without the theme park crowds.

7. SkyLift Park The SkyBridge at SkyLift Park in Gatlinburg is the longest pedestrian suspension bridge in North America — and the views are absolutely stunning. If you have anyone in your group with a fear of heights, this might be a tough sell. For everyone else, it’s unforgettable.

8. Live Music and Shows The Smokies have a deep music heritage and the shows here are genuinely world-class. Dolly Parton’s Stampede is a bucket-list dinner show with horses, performers, and a four-course meal. Country Tonite Theatre hosts top country acts throughout the summer. Check the calendar — there’s almost always something on.

9. Craft Beer at Smoky Mountain Brewery After a long day of hiking or sightseeing, few things beat settling in at Smoky Mountain Brewery in Gatlinburg or Pigeon Forge. The beer is brewed on-site, the food is solid, and the atmosphere is exactly what you want after a day in the mountains.

10. Scenic Drive on Foothills Parkway This is the Smokies’ best kept secret. The Foothills Parkway runs along the ridge above the national park and offers some of the most spectacular unobstructed mountain views anywhere in the region — with almost none of the traffic of Newfound Gap Road. Pull over at any of the overlooks and just breathe it in.

The best part? Cougar’s Cabin puts you within 20 minutes of almost everything on this list. Come home, fire up the hot tub, and debate which activity was the highlight of the day. That’s what a Smoky Mountain trip is supposed to feel like.
